The Fifth Postal Summit among Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao

The Fifth Postal Summit among Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao was held in Macao, on 14th December, 2023. The
Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Mr. Raimundo Arrais do Rosário, was invited to participate and preside over
the opening ceremony with the accompany of other distinguished guests. At the Postal Summit, Mr. Zhao Chongjiu, the Director
of the State Post Bureau, Mr. Liu Aili, Chairman of the China Post Group Corporation Limited, Ms. Tai Shuk Yiu, Postmaster
General of Hong Kong Post and Ms. Lau Wai Meng, Director of the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) delivered
welcoming speeches respectively. Delegates from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao conducted business exchanges and presented
thematic research reports on the postal sector afterwards. The highlights of this year's conference included the overall
development and prospect of postal services, exchange of postal business innovation and development practices, and exploration
of challenges and opportunities in cross-border business cooperation.
At the Postal Summit, Ms. Lau indicated that courier services around the world has faced challenges and pressures during the
pandemic. However, through the close communication and cooperation among the postal administrations of Mainland China, Hong
Kong and Macao, various difficulties were finally overcome and quality postal services are provided continuously to the
public. Regarding the international affairs, CTT has been actively participating in important events of the Universal Postal
Union and regional postal organizations, fully leveraging its regional advantages and its important role as a bridge between
China and Portugal. Ms. Lau also expressed the hope that the postal summit among Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao will continue
to play a positive role in forming a lasting mechanism to provide a valuable platform for regular exchange of opinions and
maintaining close connection among the postal industry of three regions to seek more rooms for sustainable development and
cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Zhao concluded that the Summit had achieved fruitful results and reached six important
consensus, including: (1) fully utilizing the opportunities of the Mainland/Hong Kong/Macao Postal Summit to deepen the
exchanges and cooperation among the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao; (2) promoting the interconnectivity of the delivery service
networks in the Greater Bay Area; (3) promoting the sharing of postal resources and complementarity of postal strengths among
the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao; (4) upgrading the application of intelligent technology in the postal industry of the
Greater Bay Area; (5) enriching the cultural exchanges and cooperation among the Mainland and Hong Kong/Macao Postal Services;
and (6) Facilitating close communication among the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao.
